About This Course

The Mandatory Childcare First Aid Certificate

Under the Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations, at least one educator with current HLTAID012 must be present at your service at all times when children are in care. This applies to all long day care, family day care, OSHC, vacation care, and kindergartens in WA.

WCFAT delivers on-site at your centre with Laerdal QCPR manikins including infant and child sizes — the same equipment used in professional medical training, with real-time feedback on compression quality.

  • CPR for adults, children, and infants — Laerdal QCPR feedback
  • AED use
  • Anaphylaxis and EpiPen / Anapen auto-injector use
  • Asthma management with inhaler and spacer
  • Febrile seizure recognition and management
  • Choking response for infants and children
  • Bleeding, burns, fractures, and head injuries
  • Emergency action plan for education and care settings
  • Notification obligations under the National Quality Standard

⚠️ HLTAID011 is NOT sufficient for childcare

HLTAID011 alone does not satisfy childcare regulatory requirements. You must hold HLTAID012. The good news: completing HLTAID012 gives you all four units above in a single one-day course.

Common Questions

HLTAID012 FAQ

How often does HLTAID012 need to be renewed?
Every 3 years for the certificate. CPR (HLTAID009) should be renewed annually — ACECQA and most WA childcare employers treat annual CPR renewal as mandatory.
Do all educators need HLTAID012?
At least one educator with current HLTAID012 must be present whenever children are in care. WCFAT recommends training all educators — if your one trained person is on leave, your coverage disappears.
Can WCFAT come to our Broome childcare centre?
Yes — WCFAT is based in Broome. We deliver at childcare centres, schools, and OSHC services throughout Broome and the Kimberley with no fly-in costs.
