The Legal Requirement

HLTAID012 is Mandatory for Childcare in WA

Under the Education and Care Services National Law and the Education and Care Services National Regulations, at least one educator with current HLTAID012 must be physically present at your service at all times when children are in care.

This applies to all approved education and care services in WA including long day care, family day care, out-of-school hours care (OSHC), vacation care, and kindergartens.

HLTAID012 is approved by ACECQA (Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority) as satisfying the first aid, anaphylaxis, and asthma emergency care requirements under the National Quality Standard.

⚠️ HLTAID011 is NOT sufficient for childcare

Many educators make the mistake of completing HLTAID011 thinking it covers their childcare requirement. It doesn't. HLTAID012 includes all of HLTAID011's content plus additional child-specific requirements. You must hold HLTAID012 — not HLTAID011 alone — to satisfy the regulatory obligation.

One course — four qualifications

Completing HLTAID012 gives your educators certificates covering all four units — satisfying all first aid requirements in a single day.

Why WCFAT

Real Trainers. Real Equipment. Your Centre.

WCFAT trainers are former paramedics and nurses with real experience managing paediatric emergencies — not just classroom instructors. Your educators will learn from people who have actually performed infant CPR, managed anaphylaxis, and treated real children in crisis.

We bring our Laerdal QCPR manikins — including infant and child sizes — to your centre. Your staff train on the same equipment used in professional medical training, with real-time feedback on compression quality displayed on projector screens and iPads. They leave genuinely confident, not just compliant.

Available across Perth and Broome WA. Minimum 10 participants. We handle all equipment, manikins, and materials — you just book the room.

Common Questions

Childcare First Aid FAQ

How often does HLTAID012 need to be renewed in WA?
The HLTAID012 certificate is valid for 3 years. However the CPR component (HLTAID009) should be renewed annually — and ACECQA and most WA childcare employers treat annual CPR renewal as mandatory. Build a renewal reminder into your calendar 3 months before expiry.
Do all educators need HLTAID012 or just one per centre?
At least one educator with current HLTAID012 must be present at all times when children are in care. In practice, most services train all educators — if your one trained person is on leave, at lunch, or off-site, your coverage disappears. WCFAT recommends training all educators and assistants to ensure continuous compliance.
Can WCFAT come to our centre in Broome?
Yes — WCFAT is based in Broome and delivers training at childcare centres, schools, and OSHC services throughout Broome and the Kimberley. We are one of the only nationally accredited first aid providers actually based in Broome.
Is WCFAT's HLTAID012 approved by ACECQA?
Yes. All WCFAT first aid training is delivered on behalf of Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909, and our HLTAID012 course meets ACECQA's requirements for first aid, anaphylaxis, and asthma emergency management training under the National Quality Standard.
What's the minimum number of participants?
Minimum 10 participants per session. Most childcare centres easily meet this — if your centre has fewer staff, consider partnering with a neighbouring service or scheduling a shared session. Contact us to discuss options.
